[Behind The Scenes] On My Hanger: Look Book

I’m very excited to finally be collaborating on the “On My Hanger” look book. (On My Hanger is an online boutique with an edgy and sexy style. very out of the ordinary and for the confident and alluring woman. They have an awesome vision and fusion of the New York and Los Angeles style scene). It’s great to be able to gain the trust of clients and create great stills for their upcoming project. But it’s also a challenge to work with a new team, gain their trust and create great effortlessly looking work.

When you work with a client that is developing a concept it is of utter importance that you are able to communicate efficiently with them and are able to visually translate what they are wanting to portray. Late night conference calls and constant exchanging of ideas are part of the process. It’s not very different from the usual course of work with a local client, but this was totally left to the creative team to create and develop a concept for the client.

It was fun to collaborate with such a talented staff. Photographer Israel Mojica has a very clean and edgy vision, Hair and Makeup Artist Rafy Quiñones had great ideas for the beauty development of the project, Models Josmarie Soto from Krone Models and Lorna Hernandez from G Models were a sight for sore eyes. Both girls were super talented and easy to work with, so it was great to have them on our team. I was able to accessorize and create clean sophisticated looks and they were able to pull them off. I can’t wait to see the final product and hear the feedback of our client.

[Behind The Scenes] The Cage: Working Title

Working with a creative team to produce an idea and develop a concept is an essential part of the editorial development process. Sometimes you’re lucky enough to collaborate with artist that have the same vision and are able to produce alluring imagery.

I was lucky enough to collaborate with photographer Ivonne Carlo, besides her being insanely talented, we have very similar interest and visions.

The chemistry and communication between a photographer and their stylist is extremely important. The stylist has the task to compliment the setting and storyline of the photographer. This being our (Ivonne and I) first collaboration, the pressure was on! I was able to find the perfect dresses for her story by local designer Jaer Caban. His designs have always been visionary and said to be our local McQueen.

Hair and makeup are also of the essence, they are a countenance of the scenery and the artistic portrayal of the story. The artist involved in the development of the beauty aspect of an editorial is a huge influence. This is why the beauty and style team are indispensable. I was lucky enough to know the hair and makeup artist, Rafy Quiñones. He has been a team member of Nao Nao Group where we’ve been collaborating for years. Besides him being ridiculously skilled, he’s an awesome asset to have in any squad.

In the end, all visionaries need to be able to intertwine artistry’s so they are able to have a successful outcome. In our case, it was KILLER!

Thank you for visiting my space and hope you enjoy the insight to my world. Many of you may know me as one of the founding partners of Nao Nao Group. With my creative team I have the opportunity to produce and grow artistically. I’ve learned about the elements of post-production, production and post-processing and i must admit its an exciting experience. Seeing your final work come along and create an amazing spread for print and seeing your work on the newsstands is such and incredible rush.

I’ve had the chance to style collections for designers and develop great friendships in the industry. They helped me grow into a diverse professional, with the ability to tackle everything I take on. But after so many years working as a stylist and trend reporter for runways like San Juan Fashion Week, Coor’s Light Catwalk, Puerto Rico High Fashion Week, Plazarela, Puerto Rico Moda, One Hot Night, A Night of Glamour and San Juan Moda, I’ve encountered a new phase in my career: Wardrobe Director for day time television!

Working side by side with designers is far different from collaborating with boutique and franchise owners, but a challenge I’ve taken on fearlessly. Without accounting the added stress of working with the crazy deadlines for television (it feels like you’re always fifteen minutes late for EVERYTHING). I never imagined myself as part of the dynamics of television production. But i’ll keep you informed along the way!
